Here's what's happening this week in Sustainability!

INFO SESSION: SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PROGRAM (SAP)
Thursday, Sep. 19 | 4:30-6:30pm | Sustainability Office, Irving 180
  • 28s! Drop by our open info session to learn about sustainability at Dartmouth and how YOU can get involved. The Sustainability Action Program (SAP) is focused on first years and is dedicated to enabling you to become an effective change agent – through community building events, workshops, and hands-on projects, you’ll work with sustainability staff, upperclass students, and other FIRST YEARS!

  • No sustainability experience needed!

  • Applications are due Saturday, September 28 by midnight. Apply here.

 

TUESDAY, September 17

FARM WORK DAY
8 - 10AM | Rides from behind Robo
  • Come out to the O-Farm Tuesday morning for a workday where we'll be harvesting down in the fields!! We will be leaving from behind Robo at 8am, and we'll be back by 10am. No experience required, just bring a water bottle and dress for the weather!

Sustainability Walk: Fungi and the Forest
5 - 6pm | Dartmouth Golf Course
  • Meet us at the Dartmouth Golf Course to go on a mushroom walk led by Susty staff.

  • Tickets can be reserved through the Hopkins Center website here. This event is FREE.


Dance Heginbotham: You Look Like a Fun Guy
6:45 - 7:45pm | Dartmouth Golf Course
  • We have 10 FREE tickets to each "You Look Like a Fun Guy" performance happening on September 17th, 18th, and 19th. 

  • Each of the performances is at 6:45pm, and tickets can be picked up under the name "Sustainability Office" at will call! 

  • If you plan on going to this event, please indicate what day in this google doc so we can get a head count! Thank you!  


FREE MARKET THRIFT STORE OPEN HOURS
7 - 9PM | North Massachusetts Basement
  • Instead of buying new, get your fresh fit at the Free Market! 

  • You can also drop off donations during our open hours.

 

WEDNESDAY, September 18

SUSTAINABILITY OFFICE HOURS
12 - 1:30PM | Robinson (Robo) 106
  • Join Sustainability Staff for office hours! Whether you’ve got a question about sustainability at Dartmouth or want to learn more, or just want to spend time with others and eat some delicious homemade baked goods, all are welcome.

  • If you’re a newcomer, attending office hours is a great way to hear about what we’re up to and how to get involved!

  • Want to reduce your environmental impact? Tired of buying directly from fast fashion companies with poor labor treatment? Want to save some money? Come to the Free Market and get new clothing for free!


'28s Smores Party @ the O-Farm!
6:30pm - 8:30PM | Dartmouth Organic Farm
  • '28s! Come visit the O-Farm for the first time with Farm Club! Shuttles will be leaving from beside Robo every half hour, come meet some Farm Club leaders and have s'mores by the Connecticut!

 

SATURDAY, September 21st

FREE MARKET THRIFT STORE OPEN HOURS
12 - 3PM | North Massachusetts Basement
  • Come swing by our on-campus thrift store, the Free Market, this weekend! All clothing is reclaimed from Dartmouth's waste streams. Instead of buying new clothing, get second-hand for free!


VT Center for Ecostudies planting day!
10am-1pm | Dartmouth Organic Farm
  • Join VCE Conservation Biologist Desiree Narango, Director of Conservation Ryan Rebozo, and Staff technician Amber Jones to help plant experimental gardens in the Upper Valley for our brand-new plant provenance study! We’re planting six experimental gardens to test how plant identity affects insect preferences. This event is an opportunity to get your hands dirty (literally!) by volunteering your time to help set up a scientific experiment with VCE staff. You’ll be given a protocol to help plant nearly 200 plants in a garden plot and help with labeling, spreading wood chips, and other gardening tasks.

INFORMATION SESSION FOR LANGUAGE STUDY AND STUDY ABROAD FELLOWSHIPS

Tuesday, Sept. 24 | 5:15pm

  • Are you a US citizen interested in studying underrepresented languages or a Pell Grant recipient planning on studying abroad? Join the Office of Fellowships on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:15 pm to learn about the Boren AwardsCritical Language Scholarship (CLS), and Gilman Scholarship. Boren and CLS support the study of languages deemed critical to US national security, and the Gilman helps fund study abroad for students of limited financial means. Food will be provided. Register here.
