NEWS:
The Energy Justice Clinic is currently hiring two Research Assistants for the Fall term to work on remote research in Chile with Mapuche-Williche communities. This opportunity also involves a three-week research opportunity in Chile during Winterim. Please see the attached job posting for more information.
Application Deadline and Submission Instructions: Applicants should submit as soon as possible on a rolling basis. The application period ends on Monday, August 18th, at 5:00 PM. Please submit a CV and a cover letter of at least 2 paragraphs or 1-2 minute video detailing your experience and interest to Dr. Kelly at Sarah.H.Kelly@dartmouth.edu.
Project Description: Dartmouth’s Energy Justice Clinic (EJ Clinic) is committed to creating an equitable and accessible energy transition through engaged student learning and meaningful community partnerships. In a world suffering from climate and other crises, we believe that integrating research, knowledge, and service can be of direct benefit. As an education program at Dartmouth College with acknowledged privilege, we provide applied social science collaborations with community partners working toward non-hierarchical learning relationships. We train our students in how to do ethical qualitative research grounded in law and policy and focused on remedying injustice and inequity. The Clinic operates year-round, with students able to participate both through coursework and as research assistants, providing learning continuity and depth beyond the 10-week quarter system.
The two RAs will be hired to work on ongoing research with Mapuche-Williche communities and interlocutors in southern Chile. Our ongoing research involves transnational energy conflicts involving wind and hydropower development, as well as intercultural efforts to protect watersheds and territorial relationships. Research will include participatory meetings with collaborators, interviews, document review, legal analysis, social media analysis, community science, and other tasks as they emerge. RAs will most likely contribute to broader research on transnational investments and legal innovations for territorial protection like the rights to nature. Following successful completion of the Fall RAship, travel will be funded for a three-week research trip with Dr. Kelly in Winterim.
If you have any questions, come chat with us on Wednesday, August 13th, at 2:00 PM via Zoom. If you cannot attend at that time, please email. Link for the office hours.
